Product feature update blog: Unreal Engine SDK 1.3.0 + Unity SDK 3.8.2

Building games should be about the experience, not about struggling with backend complexities. At Sequence, we’re always focused on giving web3 game developers the tools they need to focus on what truly matters: crafting amazing gaming experiences.

Several months ago, we launched the Sequence Unreal and Unity SDKs to provide full Embedded Wallet and Indexer integration for web3 games built on Unreal and Unity.

Now we're thrilled to announce our latest updates to our game engine SDKs: Unreal SDK 1.3.0 and Unity 3.8.2! These updates offer web3 game developers enhanced tools for seamless player experiences. These new releases are designed to simplify onboarding, expand compatibility, and provide more streamlined development workflows—whether you're building with Unity or leveraging the power of Unreal Blueprints.

Read on to learn about the key features of these SDK updates and how they can unlock new opportunities for your game development.

Unreal SDK 1.3.0: Blueprints, effortless onboarding, and backward compatibility

The latest Sequence Unreal SDK update brings some major improvements that aim to simplify both the development workflow for teams and the onboarding process for players. Here’s a look at what’s new:

Blueprints support: We know many Unreal developers prefer working with Blueprints, and now, with this SDK update, Blueprints are fully supported for Unreal versions 5.4 and above. If you’re already familiar with Blueprints, this means you can integrate Sequence’s functionality into your game in a highly visual, streamlined manner without needing extensive coding. This is a huge unlock, making blockchain integration as intuitive as dragging and dropping elements in the Blueprints GUI.

Backward compatibility: Additionally, we’ve added backward compatibility with Unreal 5.2 and 5.3, allowing you to take advantage of these features without the pressure of upgrading your engine version. Compatibility should never be a barrier to innovation, and this update keeps you flexible while embracing the power of blockchain technology.

More ways to onboard players: Player onboarding is critical, and we’ve now expanded support for PlayFab and Guest Wallet authentication methods in our embedded wallet. Guest Wallets are perfect for players who want to jump right in—offering an ephemeral wallet that allows players to start playing immediately, with no strings attached. The result? Increased player conversions and a smoother overall experience. Players can connect their social accounts or native wallets later when they're more engaged, making onboarding friction-free and conversion-friendly.

Imagine a new player eager to explore your game. Instead of going through multiple hoops to connect their wallet, they can start playing right away using a Guest Wallet. Once they’re engaged, they can choose to link their wallet to unlock deeper interactions. This seamless onboarding keeps players in the game when their interest is at its peak, boosting retention rates.

Federated Authentication support: this version of the Unreal Engine SDK supports Federated Auth, which allows players to link multiple social accounts to a single wallet. The feature greatly enhances the gaming experience by offering seamless cross-platform access and a simplified login process. Players can maintain their progress, achievements, and purchases across different devices and platforms, ensuring a consistent and continuous gaming experience. Additionally, Federated Auth facilitates social interaction, reduces barriers to entry for new players, and enables a more personalized gaming experience.

For Unity developers, the new Sequence SDK release brings updated capabilities that will allow you to leverage the latest Sequence features, creating even better experiences for your players.

Link web3 wallets to in-game wallets: One of the most powerful new features is the ability for players to link their web3 wallets directly to their in-game wallet. This connection allows developers to check whether players hold specific items, grant access to special content, or even enable easy asset transfers between in-game and external wallets. This feature opens up countless possibilities for integrating blockchain items in meaningful ways that elevate gameplay.

You have a game where players can earn in-game items with blockchain value. With the new wallet linking feature, players can link their web3 wallet and transfer earned items directly, allowing them to take their hard-earned rewards beyond the game, while developers can validate ownership in real-time, or verifiably check a user holds certain NFTs in any of their linked wallets to token-gate rewards or levels. Imagine the potential for loyalty and engagement when players see real value for their in-game achievements.

Streamline player onboarding with Guest Wallets: We’ve added the same Guest Wallet capabilities to our Unity SDK. We understand that one of the biggest challenges in game development is creating an onboarding flow that minimizes friction. With Guest Wallets, players can enter your game without dealing with wallet setups or social logins—just pure gameplay. This approach significantly boosts conversion rates by removing barriers during the first interaction, letting players explore your game without the hassle.

Unified login experience: This iteration of the Unity SDK introduces support for Federated Auth, enabling players to connect multiple social accounts to a single wallet. This feature enhances gaming convenience by providing seamless access across various platforms and simplifying the login process. Players can preserve their progress, achievements, and purchases across different devices, ensuring a cohesive and uninterrupted gaming journey.

Seamless PlayFab integration: If you’re already using PlayFab for player management, this update is for you. The new Sequence Unity SDK now fully supports PlayFab as an authentication method. This means that you can authenticate players against your existing backend stack seamlessly, creating a unified experience for onboarding and management without the need for additional complexity.
