Sequence Sidekick update

We are thrilled to introduce Sequence Sidekick: a powerful, self-hosted backend service designed to supercharge your blockchain-powered apps and games.

If you are building a web3 game, launching a DeFi protocol, or spinning up a dynamic NFT experience, Sidekick streamlines the hardest parts of interacting with blockchain infrastructure.

It empowers developers to move fast, stay secure, and scale effortlessly, without getting bogged down by the complexities of blockchain data, contract management, and backend orchestration.

Find out all the details and how to get started with Sequence Sidekick in this blog article!

What is Sequence Sidekick?

Sequence Sidekick API

Sequence Sidekick is a secure, extensible, containerized backend companion for web3 developers.

Built with Fastify and TypeScript, fully open-source, and packaged as a Docker container, it’s designed to run seamlessly alongside your existing backend stack — in your own cloud (Google Cloud, AWS, or anywhere else).

Rather than juggling fragmented APIs, managing your own indexing infrastructure, or wrestling with transaction logic, Sidekick provides a ready-to-deploy backend that lives in your environment and gives you full control and flexibility over blockchain interactions.

Sidekick eliminates the friction of:

  • Integrating multiple APIs across different chains and providers

  • Monitoring and responding to onchain events in real time

  • Executing and managing smart contract transactions

  • Scaling backend infrastructure without compromising performance or cost-efficiency

Sequence Sidekick: Key features

Here’s what makes Sidekick a must-have for any web3 developer or team:

Automated onchain actions. Developers can define scripts and rules to execute transactions, send tokens, or call smart contracts in response to triggers, completely programmatically.

Real-time event listeners and webhooks. Builders can set up custom event listeners to track transfers, mints, sales, or any smart contract events. Sidekick uses a high-performance indexer and pushes updates instantly via webhooks.

Programmatic blockchain querying. Wallet balances, transaction histories, NFT metadata, and contract logs using a unified API are easily accessible.

Out-of-the-box infrastructure. Comes pre-configured with Redis, PostgreSQL, and leveraging the Sequence Transaction API & Indexer for lightning-fast performance - ready for immediate deployment with one Docker command.

Smart contract and web3 wallet flexibility. Developers can easily deploy ERC20, ERC721, ERC1155, or custom contracts via API. They can use Sequence Smart Wallets or connect to AWS/GCP KMS for secure key management. Read more on how we do that in our dedicated article.

Advanced developer tools. Sidekick can automatically handle nonces and gas optimization, manage user rewards, monitor job queues with BullMQ Dashboard, explore endpoints with Swagger UI, and sync contracts via Sequence Builder integration.

Multi-chain support. Today, at least one out of three developers works across chains. Sidekick facilitates their efforts. Developers can now query across all supported EVM-compatible chains in a single request. No need to juggle multiple endpoints or APIs per chain.

Cloud-native and open source. Fully self-hosted and cloud-agnostic. Anyone can run it in their stack with Docker, customize it as they like, and integrate it deeply with their cloud tooling.

Possible use cases

Sequence Sidekick is built with flexibility in mind and empowers a wide range of use cases:

  • Web3 games: Trigger in-game events based on on-chain asset ownership, reward players with NFTs for reaching milestones, or schedule automated reward distributions

  • DeFi apps: Automatically rebalance portfolios or liquidate positions based on smart contract signals.

  • NFT marketplaces: Monitor new listings or sales and update the front end in real time.

  • Token gating: Validate user access to premium content or services based on wallet holdings, without polling or lag.

  • DAOs: Execute governance actions automatically based on voting outcomes, all managed within one’s cloud environment.
