We’re thrilled to announce a new partnership between Sequence and SANDchain, newly introduced L2 by The SANDchain Foundation, aligned with The Sandbox ecosystem, the global metaverse where millions of players create, play, and connect with culture.

A quick refresher on the Sandbox

The Sandbox began as Pixowl’s mobile game franchise in 2012 with over 40 million downloads across iOS and Android before pivoting to blockchain in 2018 following its acquisition by Animoca Brands. Since then, it’s evolved into a leading 3D, user-owned metaverse.

Since 2021, the platform has achieved 8M accounts created, 25,000 LAND owners, with more than 700,000 experiences created by over 358,000 users across its ecosystem. Today, The Sandbox continues to expand with regular platform updates and introducing The Sandbox Launcher in 2024.

Introducing SANDchain: Origins and future roadmap

SANDchain marks the next phase of The Sandbox’s evolution. Built with ZKSync’s ZK Atlas upgrade and Caldera infrastructure, this zk-powered Layer 2 combines Ethereum-grade security with massive scalability, capable of processing over 15,000 transactions per second at minimal cost and ~1s ZK finality.

Its performance makes it ideal for microtransactions, loyalty programs, and fan interactions that drive creator communities at scale.

Officially unveiled at Token2049 Singapore, SANDchain was introduced through the concept of the Creator Nation, a framework where creators, fans, and communities transact and collaborate seamlessly onchain.
