Sequence, Polygon Labs, and Paris Basketball have recently teamed up to deliver a slam dunk collaboration that will change the game of fan engagement, bringing the power of web3 to real-world sporting events.
On May 10, 2023, Paris Basketball achieved a major milestone as they joined forces with Sequence to unveil their inaugural digital collectible on Polygon blockchain. This marks an exciting moment for the basketball club, as it officially enters the web3 ecosystem to evolve its fan experience.
This initiative also showcases the growing impact of web3 adoption in the realm of sports, paving the way for enhanced fan experiences and celebration of the game like never before.
🏀 Where it all started: Paris Basketball's ambitious vision
Established in 2018, Paris Basketball is a top-tier club in France's LNB Pro A division and the EuroCup, and they are aiming high!
Following a similar path to many other organizations, enterprises, and sporting brands, Paris Basketball recognized the potential of web3 technology in promoting a new era of fandom. As a result, the club decided to leverage web3 to revolutionize the way fans connect with its team, fostering an immersive experience for their devoted community with an exciting digital collectible initiative designed to deliver fans unique opportunities.
🎨 Unlocking digital collectibles for Paris Basketball
In celebration of Paris Basketball fans, all attendees at the May 10 Betclic Elite's last regular-season home game received a free digital collectible of the Adidas Arena, the club’s new home starting from February 2024. The initiative reached fans both online and offline. Attendees at the May 10 event effortlessly redeemed their digital collectibles by scanning a QR code displayed on screens at the arena.
All three organizations — Sequence, Paris Basketball, and Polygon Labs — shared the digital collectible initiative and QR codes with each of their respective communities via online channels such as Twitter, LinkedIn, and Discord.
The campaign achieved an incredible response with over 35,000 digital collectibles claimed in less than 72 hours!
So, how did we do it?
On May 8, 2023, we released a cryptic social media post to spur online activity in anticipation of the May 10 campaign.
Did you spot the hidden Sequence logo? Or the basketball net? Or Polygon’s brand colors? We aimed to keep our communities guessing in anticipation of the collectibles launch. And on launch day, everything was revealed in this video 👇
But most importantly, to ensure that this campaign was a success, Paris Basketball chose to leverage the Sequence Wallet because of its seamless and user-friendly experience. With a simple two-click social or email sign-up, fans were able to claim their unique digital collectible — all without friction.
In combination with the Sequence Wallet, Paris Basketball chose to leverage the Sequence Transaction API and Gas Sponsorship to support gasless transactions, which enabled fans to claim their collectible for free.
As part of our involvement with Paris Basketball, Sequence developed and hosted the website for users to claim their digital collectibles. The entire development process took the Sequence team just five days to complete!
This is yet another great showcase of how the modular Sequence developer stack can be utilized by our partners, and tailored to their specific needs, to easily onboard fans in the most seamless and user-friendly way possible, regardless of whether they are proficient with web3 or new to the space.
🤝Forging deeper connections among sports fans
All will be revealed in the coming months but, picture this. Paris Basketball’s collectibles hold the power to unlock a treasure trove of exciting opportunities and real-life experiences. Perhaps next season collectible holders will be able to have exclusive access to new merchandise or will be the group of fans invited to meet and greet with players. By leveraging digital collectibles, Paris Basketball has given themselves a way to verify fans and ensure that the best experiences are going to their most engaged fans.
By seamlessly blending cutting-edge technology, creative ingenuity, and an unwavering commitment to enhancing the fan experience, the dynamic ecosystem partnership between Sequence, Paris Basketball, and Polygon Labs is reshaping the very fabric of sports fandom.
Together, we are creating an immersive environment where fans can connect with their favorite teams like never before, fostering a sense of belonging and excitement. The impact of this ecosystem partnership is poised to leave an indelible mark on the landscape of fan engagement, revolutionizing how we interact with and celebrate the sports we love.
